Message Detail:
John,

Don't be amazed. I was fully aware that the stream was down.

So are the daily podcasts.

I had a few major issues arise on the weekend which required my attention. During that time the server rebooted itself and the stream needed to be manually restarted which I did after I took care of a couple of issues and found the time to do so.

Several aspects of your post have touched a chord, so I am going to respond in a way that may not be very diplomatic but maybe needs to be conveyed to share with you what life is like in Ultimate Oldies land from this side of the fence.

You mention donations. Where is yours? A number of others who participate in helping this site (whose names I won't reveal) have assisted with donations more than once. Every dollar received goes back into the site. It's because of their care and support that I keep this running.

We get upwards of two thousand unique visitors every week coming to this site. Not hits. Unique visitors. 2,000 people a week may not be a lot to some folks, but I marvel that one person feels the site worthy to spend time here. AND...more than 15% of them spend an hour or more on the site when they do come! Now, maybe several dozen come for the stream. The rest come for the on-demand shows and other areas.

There is an option I could pursue.

How about we make the Ultimate Oldies Radio website accessible by subscription only? Meaning, that if you don't donate each month to access the shows, you can't hear them?

Not a bad idea, huh? That way...I can pay off the thousands of dollars I've invested in the site and get something in return for my 15-20 hours (and sometimes more) each week of updating, researching, cataloguing, and recording programs.

I appreciate the inspiration, John. You're helping me to perhaps learn another business skill or two. And I'll keep working on that customer service too. Like a former associate of mine once said, "Bob, you have a lot to learn".

I know I shouldn't rant like this. I do get a little sensitive at times and it is one of my many weaknesses. I'm reminded that I'm still a work in progress and I have a mighty long ways to go.

Finally, I appreciate your presence on the site John. I welcome your comments pro and con.

Keep on rockin'!

Bob
