Rich, I understand your frustration and concur with your views. Radio has indeed shot itself in the foot. Unfortunately, the move toward 'oldies without a soul' radio began with the creation of large corporate ownerships. I remain in the business and have been since the 70's. I've spoken in recent years with Oldies PD's about this very subject. Many of them do not share our views. Largely because they have contracted a case of 'know-it-all-itis' and due to pressures from higher-ups and peers have abandoned common sense programming in favor of 'industry trends'. 'Trends' like the importance of rating points, focus groups, consultants and the like which have reduced oldies from memory-producing music to predictable playlists which do not excite or entertain. Well, it is my opinion that these so-called trends have not only sent listeners away in droves from terrestrial radio, but have given rise to internet radio stations who now have the potential to gain many listeners otherwise disenfranchised by today's AM/FM 'oldies' offerings. The average person calls them oldies. Radio programmers refer to the songs as 'classic hits' I know of one such PD who threatens his jocks with rebuke and scorn of the word 'oldies' is even spoken in his presence. Let's see what we can do going forward. Bob
