Did you happen to see the TAMI Show on PBS last night (if it was broadcast in your area)? The one that featured Jan and Dean, the Beach Boys, Supremes, Stones, Marvin, Smokey, AND--last but not least--James? From Wikipedia: American producer Rick Rubin recalls in an anecdote that, when visiting Prince's offices, a loop of James Brown's performance on the show was looped on a lobby television. He speculates "that may be the single greatest rock & roll performance ever captured on film." I have to agree. It's absolutely charismatic. He sings "Prisoner of Love", "Night Train" and "It's All Right." The whole routine is there, with one of the band members slipping the coat on his back pretending to help him limp exhaustedly off the stage and then JB suddenly jerks the coat off, turns around and goes back to the mike for more! What a performance!!! And this was almost a whole year before Papa got a brand new bag. J
