Usually a copyright date (although not in every case) refers to the year of a song's release by the artist who records it.

Example, one of the songs in the CD contents listed in your second post...the Platters version of 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes'...was written many years before by Jerome Kern BUT the copyright date is 1959 because that is when THEIR version was released.

BTW...one source says EMI and Decca were the first to release 45's in stereo in 1958. Check it out.
