This forum is definitely getting surreal! Anyway, having penned by two cents worth on Easter, I decided to put together my own listing of 20 Hit Songs About God & Religion - which I thought would make a good theme for next Easter Sunday. To my surprise, I am already stuck. The only ones I can immediately recall are "He" - The Righteous Brothers And that's it. Surely, there just has be more than five? (And stop calling me Shirley). I can bring it up to eight by including songs which had some reference to God in the title or lyric - songs like "God Country & My Baby" by Johnny Burnette, or "God Only Knows" by the Beachboys, or even "Roll Away The Stone" by Mott The Hoople, and I can make it ten by including some some non-hits like "All God's People" by Queen and "With God On Our Side" by Bob Dylan They must have, but my feeble brain has exceeded its working limit for today (20 minutes on a good day). When you can think of lots of songs about wars, shootings, etc., but only a handful about God, there has to be something odd going on! (Perhaps my teachers were right - it was the devil's music after all!) |
