I remember exactly how I felt when "Make It With You" by Bread came over the airwaves in July 1970. When I first heard those lush strings kick in just before the second verse I was like Whoa! After all the raucous, rebellious stuff of the '60s (which I thoroughly loved), MIWY sounded so strangely gentle and wholesome, almost like Percy Faith or some other orchestral record from the early '50s. For me that was THE moment when I began to realize an important "changing of the guard" was occurring-the end of the Beatles/British Invasion era and the beginning of the soft rock era of the early '70s.
