Message Detail:
I'd argue that some of the major groups hosting events are the deciding factor on the use/non-use of a signal detachment. I started with a signal detachment when I was fifteen- now a man and plenty of "real" war experience myself- the observations then are now clear. I argue that commanders, in some cases, don't know how, when, or where to use a signal detachment. We do not fall into the three identifying categories of infantry, cavalry or artillery, so we are not key components. On the obverse, I had the opportunity to see some reenactors use the hell out of detachments because we provided a service in communication that they felt was necessary. On one occasion we alerted medical teams in an on field emergency that was relayed through battle lines. Are signal detachments at all events? In accurate portrayal? I think that this is also an issue for leading reenactors. Just my thought.
