Bruce Earl Blevins Jr. "Sonny", 63, an 125th series signal corps re-enactor, founding member and 3rd camp commander of the Colonel William Norris Camp 1398, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and resident of Shadyside, Maryland, died July 11, 2013, at the Anne Arundel Medical Centre (AAMC) after suffering a stroke while kayaking on June 30. |
Bruce was born on June 30, 1950 in the District of Columbia. His roots go back to the Old North State - North Carolina.
A graduate of Bladensburg High School, Bruce was later employed by EC Keys, RS Leitch, and the US Naval Academy.
Bruce was a member of Calvary Community Church in Riva, Maryland.
In honor of his Scottish heritage, Bruce was a member of Clan MacNaughton. He enjoyed kayaking, yoga, riding his bicycles as well as riding his motorized bikes and playing the mandolin.
As their leader, Bruce orchestrated a band known as the Shady Side Sour Notes, which played gratis at various nursing homes and other like venues.
Preceding him in death was his father, Bruce Blevins Sr.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Sharon Blevins of Shadyside; son, Bruce Blevins III of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Dana Blevins (Mike Sost); mother, Mildred Morene Blevins and sister, Cindy Blevins, both of Glade Valley, NC.; two grandsons, Chazz and Kenzy Sost of Churcton; and granddaughter Amber Blevins of Shadyside, Maryland.
