Message Detail:
All of the Telegraph gear that was in Lincoln's "Telegraph Room" was mine. I did about 15 minutes of training with the guys that operated the keys so that they looked convincing. Notice that they held the keys with three fingers and not 'tapped' on them with one finger like you would a NAIL with a HAMMER! (and that the keys were camelback) They also were able to mimic sending code fairly well. I had a key off camera and was able to 'send' to them so that it looked like they were copying. I also spent time telling them about 'copying' They learned to listen for the pauses inbetween characters and THEN to write a letter. I these guys did a pretty good job looking like real telegraphers as far as the 'technical' aspect goes. Since there was no sound on set it made things quite a bit easier. Of corse - the message I was sending was, "The south shall rise again" over and over again but even I can't pick up on that in the final product!

My only SERIOUS beef was that they listed me in the credits but spelled my damn name wrong. Oh well - that's life.
