Subject: RE: It Wasn't, It Shouldn't... But Who Cares?
I thought you were on a rant until I looked at the offending item. Very bogus; it resembles the modern SigC insignia minus the torch. I've seen a variety of unofficial signal insignia worn by various federal officers in the late Civil War period ('64-65), but nothing like the thing being offered by Regt. QM. Most late war signal officer insignia seem to be a variation of the staff hat badge with crossed signal flags superimposed. I have also seen a period drawing of a signal officer wearing what appears to be large cloth crossed flags on his forage cap (probably enlisted insignia trimmed to fit on the cap). If someone decides to get this offending farby insignia, then perhaps they should invest in the equally bogus shoulder straps with signal flags centered between the bars. If you're going to be wrong, might as well go whole hog!
