I knew a bit about Smithsonian's holdings and, if the NCM were planning a specific exhibit, presume they would pursue a loan, as you suggest. (The Agency loaned the only remaining WW 2 "bombe" for extended period to Smithsonian, as well as other crypto items.) What I've looked for is something NCMF could procure by purchase or donation that would become property of NCM collection and perhaps be incorporated into a fixed exhibit on communication technology.

Didn't know of your role with Mr. Finn. Reminds me, c1990, of learning Smithsonian had two Beardslees and asking them if they'd ever tried to connect them. Impression was that the idea never dawned on them before... .
Didn't CS (with some signal corps participants) hit Cherrystone to disrupt Union comms? (Among the "odd things" in the back room of the Signal Bureau supply room in Richmond were "cutlasses." Wonder why.)
