Let me say that during my attempts to cut and paste your question, my scissors did serious damage to my screen.

In answer to your question, if no other signalmen are present at an event, the lone signalist might wish to
gather together some of the spectators for an impromptu camp of instruction on aerial telegraphy. This seems
to be especially appealing to children and demonstrates the ease with which the system may be initially learned.

If there are signalmen on the other side of the field, then the lone signalist can present himself as one de-
tailed to copy and study the enemy's signals. Since they will probably be using a code that you have on hand,
you can claim to have broken the code through your observations.
