Subject: Guilford Station on the Map? Nope... But Sterling Is

Message Detail:
A wire ran from Guilford, a point along an unfinished rail road right-of-way of the Loudon & Hampshire (I believe), back down the line to Fairfax.

The signal station was just west of the telegraph office past the Lane House along the old Vestal Pike and up the Little Pony Mountain, as the locals called it.

This station had a view of Leesburgh, VA, and also Poolesville, MD, then to Sugarloaf Mountain (also in MD). We must remember that although the Sugarloaf Station, built as a tower albeit extending just above the summit's treeline, may have been visible from Guilford, the haze may have affected visibility at certain times.

Hope the below link helps too.
