Ray, maybe I mis-read your note. By "sketch," I was referring to the short bio, not a drawing, if that's what you inferred (or were teasing too early in the morning for me to absorb it).|
I have not found anything he wrote or wrote about or was quoted on extensively with regard to signals in battle. (Perhaps among surviving headquarters papers??) No indication that Longstreet had a likeness (as he did of Harrison, for example) for his book. As you can see from my bio-sketch, Manning was hard-put just to survive and keep his family going, and may have had no time or energy for memoirs, reunions, and the like. I know of no surviving letters. But there's always hope. I have precious little on the "internal" signal doings within ANV First Corps.
