Message Detail:
I always have a similar pang when I use "CW" with a telegrapher, and that's on top of the pang I feel having been brought up to use the term, WBTS instead. In his little book, "The Civil War As Told by James Street," the author explains that he uses the term because "it saves type." (Personally, I prefer "War for Southern Independence.")

(Is your son still wearing that crossed rifles cap badge?)

And Navy wears on just one sleeve, as I recall.
