Well said. The genius of the Myer-Alexander system was that it could say anything in any language desired. That also meant spelling out, at perhaps five wds or less a minute. Then came abbrevs, conventional signas, etc. as you note. I dare say that it is through these "pre-concerts" that you should be able to convince the Cdrs to tolerate--and then use--signals. To call a real world medics team with a single sign (while he is still trying to find the proper channel on his handy-talkie)ought to make an impression somewhat like "Look to your left--you are turned."
