Subject: Kerosene Lamps For Sale in 1862

Message Detail:

Among turpentine, benzine and other burning solutions tried in the signallist's torches were coal oil and kerosene. It must not have taken long for the petroleum industry to kick in since the discovery of oil in Pennsylvania in 1859.
