I've noted, but wondered about, that Ludwick ref. Memory playing tricks, or valid ref to crossed flags on both sleeves? (Is he confusing the wearing of crossed flags with the later practice of both sleeves?)
As to the other two, it's worth revisiting the past Nov-Dec issue of "Military Images." (Carlisle has other pix, some of which were copied and are at the National Cryptologic Museum at Fort Meade, in their Civil War exhibit.)
However, don't think we can readily call these "early." Furber enlisted 12 Apr 64; Campbell transferred in on 1 Mar 64. The Gen Order was dated 22 August 64.
