Very interesting. Note that the joint is not at the half-way point, suggesting that the lower section has been cut down from original, perhaps to make it fit indoors under a low ceiling. (GAR post, perhaps?) Would also explain why no end cap at bottom. If we double the length of the top section, we get a rather long pole. And IF (big "if") this is really wartime, it demonstrates that a type of screw fitting was known and in use at the time.
