To all concerned for the future of the once proud S.T. Baltimore with it's front door position to the history of the Port of Baltimore I salute you. Everyone I know (and that includes multi-state contacts) just greave for her. It is a current sad situation. All the crew, present and past, still living (and I'm sure under the stone) are pained by the past decade +. The current crew have been doing the best they individually can. The 2011 work has been to replace the bow main deck marine plywood placed there in the 90's in hopes that the entire deck would be replaced to it's historic character. As all wooden vessels need, she has received new paint to her house and pilot house. With great anticipation on my part since I have been doing the research, she is expected to get her stack returned to the historic charcoal black with the letters "HB" for Harbor Board bolted to opposite sides of the top. Major work was also anticipated for the engine room. There are currently only 4-6 crew members available for her on-going preservation needs. And their time as all of us is conditional as volunteers. |
