Subject: Unterwasserboot DEUTSCHLAND w-Baltimore Tugboats |
|
Greetings Holland, Your additional images of the DEUTSCHLAND'S Baltimore Harbor visit are teriffic! We really appreciate your sharing this fine collection of photographs with us. Some motion picture footage is yet extant and we hope to be acquiring copies of it, thus providing us all with what we believe could be some of the earlest known footage of this special cargo submarine and also the three assisting harbor tugs TIMMINS, GREYHOUND and BALTIMORE. There is a still image showing photographers with tripod mounted motion picture cameras on the wheelhouse roof of the GREYHOUND. In fact, the view of the BALTIMORE and TIMMINS lying off of DEUTSCHLAND with the pilot boat facing aft but still attached to DEUTSCHLAND'S starboard side may have been captured from cameramen aboard GREYHOUND. Your 1955 image of the five pierside Baltimore harbor tug boats (bows facing toward the camera) appears to have been taken at Lazaretto Point across from Fort McHenry - shown as the narrow tapering spit of land (upper right side of the image). As an aside, would it be possible to check your files to see if there are any photos or drawings of distinctive tugboat designs which can be attributed to any particular European country? Our site designers are exploring the possibility of showcasing such differences in tug boat design construction. We are especially enjoying your prima images. Nautically Yours, |
