Subject: repair of riveted steel hull

i have been directed to your forum by Walt mathers.

im about to start repairing a rivitediron hulled boat. and im looking for advise. repairing with rivits is not a likely option, so have any of you expirence in welding such iron, bearing in mind ill be using steel plate.
also ill be most likely be using a 300amp arc welder, not gas. what type of rods etc do you recomend etc.
