I wanted to alert you all to a fabulous interactive port adventure for children of all ages. It is called PORT OF BALTIMORE ONLINE VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP, and was produced as part of the Port of Baltimore Tricentennial Committee's and was unveiled earlier today by Committee Chairwoman Helen Bentley during a press conference at the Baltimore Maritime Industries Academy in northeast Baltimore City. The program is presented in two parts: 1st. "Working at the Port" allows site visitors to gain first-hand knowledge of the various occupations associated with a major seaport. 2ndly. "Tech Challenge" allows the user's computer mouse to actually shift cargo off and onto vessels in and out of port and continue handling a variety of load weights from one port to another. There's another interactive game in this section which touches on a variety of methods of dredge operations! Lastly: "All About the Port" includes concepts related to the shipping industry involving intermodal transportation, containerized cargo handling, plus scheduling methods and a glimpse at some of the unusual equipments employed at ports such as Baltimore. "There's a story in almost every corner of the Port, every hour of every day, and that is the Port of Baltimore," says Mrs. Bentley We ALL agree with Helen when it comes to the Port that Built the City. Hope you all enjoy the offering below. Walt Mathers |
