Subject: RE: Federal Hill Shipbuilding History @ BMI

Message Detail:
I was researching a short paper for my History of Baltimorecourse at University of Baltimore... Was researching the shipyards circa 1850 to 1975 and I found ghosts..At one time I worked for a steamship carrier,Prudebntial Lines back in the seventies you can imagine my dismay of the radical changes in the Federal Hill shipyards in thirty years... Iwas pleased to see the Baltimore restored but even more stunned to realize that the wreck of the Governor McClean was on the site of the BMI. What a tie in for my paper... The shipyards of Fells Point moved to Federal Hil largely because the Oystering Industry made land for shipyards to expensive in Fells Point..The Oystering Industry perciptated a "war" in which the Governor McLean was the flag ship of the Oyster Navy...Would like any info you have on the McLean hull no, when and where built (she may have been British Built and bought buut not sure) any info would be a help.
