|
The SS Nantucket caught fire at Pier 5, North Locust Point on September 2, 1912. Water from firefighting operations caused the vessel to roll on her side with little warning. Firefighters and crewmen scrambled off the the boat as it went over, two crewman were lost. After the Nantucket settled, the fireboats moved back in and firefighters battled the blaze for several more hours.
