It would be somewhat helpful if you knew what city or town he would have lived in during what time period. Lots of mariners lived near to their employment terminals especially if they were assigned to yard tug service.

Sometimes, military pension records can help establish a post-war/military service residency.

Various local directories at port cities have advertisements listing the captains in their employ. These, however, are in many cases offered in pdf form and might not show up when conducting a routine word or name search.

Also, new material is being placed upon the Internet daily so, if you are still stumped today, a search one day soon might provide exactly what you are seeking.

Another good source for names of crew members would be on -line newspaper archives with a search feature.
