Subject: Quarantine Dr. Drowns at Commercial Wharf

Message Detail:
A Fatal Misstep

Dr. Lloyd Howard, quarantine physician and in charge of the quarantine hospital at Baltimore for the past six years, was accidentally drowned in the harbor at Commercial wharf on Monday morning.

He was on his boarding steam tug [un-named] and as the tug neared the wharf, Dr. Howard attempted to jump on the pier. In the effort it is supposed he made a misstep and fell between his boat and the pier, striking his head and sinking in the water.... He was about 40 years old.
