Bob, I'm right now listening to the above and thought you'd like to hear my preferences. I'll list them as they play: Light My Fire: Doors. Simply too great and classic a single to be successfully upstaged by any remake, even JF's folk/Latin/flamenco rendition. Keep on Dancing: Gentrys. I never heard the Avantis' rollicking version before, and I dig it; but was raised on the remake, which holds lotsa memories for me. Tracks of My Tears: Johnny Rivers. Smokey penned and recorded one of the greatest songs ever, but the remake is more sensitive, much prettier, and fits the lyrics like a glove. Hurts So Bad: Little Anthony and the Imperials. Has the same dramatic, grand feel as Forum's "River Is Wide." Add to that painful. LA lets you know it hurts! Cupid: Sam Cooke. Actually, don't really care for either version you featured. I hoped you were going to play the catchy Johnny Nash one! I Only Want To Be With You: Bay City Rollers. Both great records; practically a tossup, but the background rhythm guitar licks in the Rollers' hit add a subtle and appealing toughness that's slightly lacking in Dusty's string and brass-laden version. I know most others won't agree. Fever: Peggy Lee. Some may prefer LWJ's slightly down-and-dirty R&B original, but who can beat snapping fingers and primitive tumble-down kettle drums? And all that besides Peggy's sultry yet tough delivery? MacArthur Park: Richard Harris. I'm blowing my cover by revealing this, but it is one of my three all-time faves. Please don't let anyone else know! A good, not great, song-it has obvious flaws-but a FANTASTIC record, an elaborate pop symphony. It totally captivated me from the moment I first heard it. No other hit single so perfectly depicts the entire range of emotions involved in male heartbreak-from hopeless, wistful sadness to wild, unbridled fantasy. At least Donna's version is danceable. I Only Have Eyes for You: Flamingos. My all-time fave '50s single, this is IMHO the greatest slow-dance ballad of rock's early era. Try and find another that evokes such wonderfully misty, languid, starry-eyed, perfect and complete romantic bliss. By comparison, Garfunkel's version is plain and totally Dullsville. By the way, I like the new design on your Web site. I'm shocked. I feel like I don't recognize it anymore! Jeff
