Yes indeedy, in May of last year, Infinity radio (owners of WCBS) decided that it was time to scrap the 'Olde Golde' on 101.1 in favor of an 'exciting' new format called JACK-FM. The concept with the latter is to convince the public that the new format has a larger and more eclectic playlist, and thus eliminate the perception of 'repetition'. To see how the new format has done in place of the oldies, visit www.radioandrecords.com, hit ratings, hit New York, and look at the last 3-4 books involving WCBS. An on-line petition was started after the move by the many fans who wanted to get the oldies back on. Alas, to no avail. As far as the jocks? Well, Cousin Brucie went to Sirius Satellite where he does some work. The others scattered to various and sundry ports of call, including ex-Monkee and WCBS-FM morning man Micky Dolenz. Infinity also last Spring canned the oldies formats at their Baltimore and Chicago stations in favor of 'JACK'. While we at Ultimate Oldies Radio are saddened at the loss, we will do our best to provide an alternative for folks who want to listen to oldies on the internet.
