Subject: RE: Tom Jones - It's Not Unusual

Message Detail:
To John & Jim,

Too bad Sandie didn't even record the song. I would have loved to hear a female take on the song Tom Jones made (as much as any of his other ones) a 'signature song'.

Sometimes artists aren't even told of a certain song being available, but some who are sense opportunity and their instincts are proved accurate.

I interviewed Bobby Goldsboro when I ran 'The Wheel' (WEEL AM-FM) in Dothan, Alabama. He told me the song 'Honey' was going to be given to another artist and that he badgered the writer for days to let him record it.

As we all know, the rest is history.

Then...there's the song Travelin' Man which writer Jerry Fuller offered to Sam Cooke in 1961. Sam turned it down. Fuller then approached Ricky Nelson with it and again, musical immortality.

As far as knowing what to believe, I go along with that. Musicians (singers, writers, producers, any of 'em) are like Fishermen. The more they tell their stories, the bigger they become over the years, and sometime, the names become juxtaposed, omitted, or falsified for whatever reason.
