Hi John, great to hear from you again.

Cadence had a weird numbering system anyway. Their first release was in 1953, and was numbered Cadence 1230.

Why 1230?

Seemingly Archie Bleyer did not want to atart with 1000 or 1001, as he wanted to give distributors the impression that it was an established label.

So he looked over the contract signed by Julius LaRosa - the artist on the first release - and discovered that he had been born on January 2nd 1930, and so Cadence 1230!

It all went well until 1961, and the year opened with Cadence 1391, which was by Johnny Tullotson.

However, 1393 was skipped, along with 1396, 1400 and 1401.

I could never work out why he dropped those specific numbers.

Somebody out there knows. Let us into the secret!
