John, what you said was true for The Grassroots first hit, Where Were You When I Needed You, but shortly thereafter, a California lounge group was re-named The Grassroots to hit the road when this song was a hit. Rob Grill was a member of that group. Creed Batton, who is seen on The Office, was also a guitar player. I saw them in concert many times.
As for The Outsiders, songs like Respectable and Girl In Love, although not top 10, still received a lot of airplay here in the Midwest. Maybe that was because the band was from Cleveland, OH.
