The 1964 countdown was indeed a history maker, in that it was the last go around for many of the late 50's, early 60's artists. I remember hearing the Beatles for the first time, as well as the other British invasion groups, and being almost mad at them. I grew up with the old American artists, and having them come over and take over "our music", well, it was rather unsettling. It wasn't until the later 60's that I really appreciated the British music. Many of the American artists would make comebacks in the early 70's, while so many of those British invasion artists were done well before then.
