Chubby Checker obviously saw the writing on the wall, that nothing of his Cameo-Parkway catalog was being officially re-issued (bootlegs, though, out of Canada), and chose to remake his hits. It's sad for those many fine Philadelphia artists, because, to the best of my knowledge, two individuals were so darn greedy and HAD to make money that I feel they didn't deserved. Prolonged court battles, over ownership, kept going, while the artists never received a drop of money. The more I look into these Philly producers, the more they turn my stomach. I mean, when I, John nobody, had to tell the producer that the artist's songs were issued on LP, in stereo (mono on CD), it makes me wonder what he produced, other than talk. I wish I had the money to help those artists fight these two people, legal like, and do them justice and respect they actually deserve. Nice blog, Bob! Best, |
