Subject: RE: It's Not Just Ìn America That The Oldies Are Being Phased Out

Message Detail:
That's just terrible. No excuse.

Aside from the fact that Cliff Richard was the "Elvis Presley" of England, Oldies stations being selective in which songs they play is just plain wrong!
If I owned an Oldies station, I would play everything!! (Especially Doo-Wop)

But I had noticed something a long time ago. What Oldies stations did was target that part of the potential audience who GREW UP WITH THAT MUSIC!!! (DJ- "...the music you grew up with.") and ("...come on you know the words")

Why? Why not go after the younger people too. Those who didn't grow up during the 50s & 60s, or were too young to listen.

The program/music directors should've had the foresight to 'pass the baton', so to speak. A good way to do this is for the DJs to be DJs. SAY IT WHEN YOU PLAY IT.
It doesn't help at all when records played are almost never identified.
Who is that? What's it called? Even -- what YEAR was it out?
By DJs doing that, telling us the artist & title, (like they used to back in the day) the listener has a clue. He can better appreciate the older music. And sometimes, be like a Bob Mathers and Casey Kasem and say something about the song or artist.

Oldies stations shot themselves in the foot. They should have concentrated on keeping that remarkable genre alive & going.
Thank GOD for the internet, 'cause we need Ultimate Oldies Radio.
