The song that Jim Carrey did portraying Andy Kaufman in the film played at Andy's funeral in the 1999 movie "Man on the Moon" is one and the same as the #26 record on your 1/16/60 countdown--"This Friendly World." In this friendly, friendly world, I always assumed Kaufman himself wrote it, since so much of his comedy reflected the Pleasantville-like innocence and security of the late '50s and early '60s. Mighty Mouse, Howdy Doody, milk and cookies, goofin' on Elvis. And, unknown to me until now, Fabian. Sadly, a song more true then than now. Not that there's no longer a bright side out there; you just have to force yourself to look at it sometimes. Jeff |
