In Ireland last year, the country had a total of 53 murders, and we thought that was really disgraceful.

But Philadelphia itself actually had 406 - neerly eight times more?

That really is hard to believe - in fact had anybody suggested it to me, I would have thought they were talking total rubbish.

Of course, in Ireland, it is almost impossible for a private citizen to own a gun, and our police are not armed, so gun crime is rare enough, but still, there must be some other reason.

No more jokes from me about New Jersey from now on!
