Brian who passed away only a few years ago, was a pianist, conductor and arranger, and for many years, was MD for Shirley Bassey. (He probably could play drums also - he was a very talented guy). This theme, although not this version of it, is still being used by the BBC for the current reincarnation of Pick Of The Pops. Incidentally, you mention that this was also used in a movie. I don't think so - I only recall it being used for the radio program, but I could be wrong. This was the theme that all us wannabe DJ's practised to - trying to imitate Alan Freeman's "Hello pop pickers" phrase, and the way he slotted in snappy phrases between the gaps in the theme. Never got it right myself. |
