I never met Solomon Burke or heard him perform.

However he influenced R&B a lot more than people realize.

I'll be MC'ing a benefit dance in Baltimore on November 13 headlined by a group called the Van Dykes.

They had a minor US hit in 1962 called 'Stupidity'. Another of their tunes was 'King Of Fools'. The group retains at least 3 original members.

They recorded both sides in a post-midnight session in New York back in '62.

Who was the producer of the sides?

Yes, it was Solomon Burke. Both the Van Dykes and Burke recorded for Atlantic.

A very flamboyant man who made a significant mark on music.

Prayers for comfort are asked for his family and friends.
