Typically, especially with later songs, record companies avoid remixing song, creating a true Remaster, because there are so many tape tracks (16-24+) and initial mixer may have done some odd, undocumented things with the "hit" mix! Not so bad with earlier music, since 3-4 tracks can be easily mixed. But mixing 16+ tape tracks requires an octopus at the mixing console! However, someone decided to remix some of Elton John's songs. Some sound impressive, because the absence of tape noise, using actual session tapes to mix. Therefore, near silent passages can exist and still be clearly heard, creating a wider dynamic range! It's hard to appreciate the unique sound of this remix, without headphones... Best,
