John wrote... Well, I was trying to remember the other Cadence artist, it was Pat Boone Jim replied.... At this stage, I honestly cannot remember Pat Boone ever recording for Cadence, although he seems to have recorded for about everybody else anyway! I do recall when he left Dot in 1970, he moved to Tetragrammaton Records, and then to lots of labels, including Lion And Lamb Records, and even Motown. Seriously - Pat Boone was signed to Motown once! The main people I remember signed to Cadence were Andy Williams, and of course The Everly Brothers. And naturally Johnny Tillotson. If I recall correctly, Archie Bleyer sold all of the masters to Andy Williams, who founded a label called Barnaby to reissue the tracks that he had ended up owning. Andy signed a lot of people in the 60's including my old friends The Crickets, along with Paul Anka, Jimmy Buffett, Claudine Longet who was married to Andy, Ray Stevens and Lenny Welch. He sort of lost interest around 1980 or so, but I think he still actually owns all the masters to the Everly Brothers and Johnny Tillotson, and licences them out to labels like Rhino etc. As I said - I think! |
