Sort of like if the White House had its own radio station, which could be heard everywhere. (Do not want to get into politics here, but in Europe, up to recently, governments liked to control lots and lots of things. Like in Ireland...imagine Greyohund Bus owned by the state...CBS TV owned by the state....Bell Telephone owned by the state....All electrical supply companies, owned by the state....and so on...and so on). But nowadays (thanks to the work done back in the 60's by pirates like Caroline), there is a vibrant non-government-controlled private broadcasting sector in the UK and (due to work done in the 80's by pirates - like the one I once modestly broadcast for), likewise in Ireland. But that "freedom" goes back only 20 years! Before that, only the government could broadcast anything.
