Not sure what's involved in copyright transfer. Seems to me, seeing one record label absorb recordings, it's just a matter of purchasing them from the previous copyright holder. However, I'm sure there's more legal jargon in between. Also, just obtaining the recordings doesn't justify a copyright transfer. Still feel the artists should have some say in the matter of who obtains the copyright.

But when I found Johnny Mathis, in stereo, issued in the UK, because of expiring copyrights, I thanked the Lord (and the record label)! From Sony to the Japanese, they don't offer it (Chances Are) in stereo!

I like Cliff Richard's (US) hits in the '70's. Have a (older) story of him in a imported large tabloid (Hello?) magazine, in his fancy house. It's sort of amazing how long these artists charted elsewhere, but (much) later became popular in the US!
