You are dead right (as usual). The version called "I'll Remember (In The Still Of The Night)" was due to some minor panic on the part of the music publisher. You recall Cole Porter had a big big hit in 1937 with "In The Still Of The Night", which everybody but everybody covered. As we all know, titles cannot be copyrighted (there could be and possibly are, dozens of totally different songs called "White Christmas"), but the publishers, afraid that some stations would not play what they would look at as a ripoff of the title, thought about re-titling the song, and so some copies shipped to shops with the title "In The Still Of The Night", while others shipped to radio with the title "I'll Remember (In The Still Of The Night)". No matter which version you have, it still sounds like as though it was recorded in a very deep basement. Funny enough, I did not mind that muffled sound when U.S. Bonds came out with "Quarter To Three", but the Satins sound a lot better on the "Aisle" song. But the real question is....where are you getting this stuff from? Amazing. |
