Subject: RE: The Drifters - There Goes My Baby

Message Detail:
Have no idea about the 45 version without strings...could be.

However, I cannot understand the frequently repeated claim on Wikipedia and other places, that "There Goes My Baby" was was "the first commercial rock-and-roll recording to include a string orchestra". (That is what Wikipedia says anyway).

How was it?

It was recorded in April 1959, and entered the Billboard charts on the 1st June 1959.

So where does that put Buddy Holly's "It Doesn't Matter Anymore", which was recorded in Ostober 1958 and entered the US charts on 23rd February 1959?

Come to think of it, how about The Skyliners "Since I Don't Have You" which was recorded in November 1958 and entered the US charts on the 16th February 1959?

And those are just two of dozens.
