Subject: RE: Al Wilson - The Snake - 1968

Message Detail:
Bob's Cherry Hill Park story is familiar to the Hanky Panky story. If I recall, Tommy James and the Shondells recorded this song in 1963 as young kids. The record did nothing until the summer of 1966, when a jock in Pittsburgh picked up on it, started to play it, and it became a big hit there. Other stations around the country then followed. They asked Tommy James and his band to do a live show in Pittsburgh, but the problem was, The Shondels were no longer, having broken up in the time between. Tommy James put together a new band, and the rest is rock history!
