Chatting with a manager of a local radio station. He claims, to be successful, you must offer unique information. People eat that up!

Jim replied....

Do you mean that he is saying that DJs should offer unique information?

If so, I agree, but I am surprised to hear a modern MD say that!

Nowadays, PDs hardly want you to name the singer or the song, and as for adding anything else - they would pass out if you started giving out intelligent interesting info.

However, having said all that - a few years back I spoke with a very very successful PD from a top US oldies station, and his view was that people listened to oldies radio more for the information than the music, simply because the real fans had owned the same records the station was playing.

Now what they wanted was something new about the records they had bought all those years back.

I agree, because I have almost every show Bob Mathers has done to date, and I listen to my oldies nowadays - not via the original records - but via Bob's shows.
