No John - it was not a challenge, I have it on 45rpm (as you say, it did not chart in the USA). Actually, it was only released over here because his "Concrete & Clay" was not - it had been covered by Unit 4 + 2, but oddly, I thought their version was far better than his, with the superb acoustic guitar runs etc. I wonder if he heard their version before he recorded his follow-up, because when he followed up "Concrete" with "Mud", he almost duplicated their instrumental sound, and produced a far superior recording altogether. All this time later, I would put it in my Top 20 of all time! But I have never heard it in stereo.... |
