Hi John, I too remember Tim Moore's version of "Second Avenue" being played on the radio quite often, but not Art Garfunkle's version. And it's really one of my favorite songs out of that era! But it's probably just a case where certain markets around the country played the Moore version and other markets played the Garfunkle version -- or possibly both! I do remember back in the 70's when Tim Moore played the song on the "Today" show, and they interviewed him briefly. But it's the only thing he ever did. I still hear Garfunkle's version every now and then, only because I've got a couple of greatest hits albums of his, and 2nd Avenue is on them. BTW, has anybody ever heard of Garfunkle's version of "Bright Eyes," a very beautiful tune which was a smash hit in Europe but flopped here in the states? It's on Garfunkle's greatest hits albums as well and he still plays it when he's in concert. My, how Top 40 has changed since the 70's!! I was just listening to a Top 40 station yesterday to hear what kind of music they're playing, and it's inundated with rap, hip-hop, things like that. In my opinion it's just terrible and not pleasing to the ear at all! At least we still have our oldies!! |
