Actually Joe Meek was the first person in the music industry to show faith in Cliff Bennett, and he produced seven sides for Cliff - three A sides, and four B sides, all leased to Parlophone. These were: 61-06 You Got What I Like [Parlophone R 4793] A None charted, and following this, Bennett signed with Brian Epstein, and George Martin produced "One Way Love" 64-10 (and it's flop follow-up "I'll Take You Home") while Paul McCartney produced "Got To Get You Into My Life" 66-09, which was a hit. A few weeks after Cliff's single reached Number 6, Joe Meek murdered his landlady and committed suicide on the anniversary of the death of his hero - Buddy Holly. |
